Clear your calendar! You're invited to take part in the Future of Driverless City II: Autonopolis (2 of 4 Summer Talk Series) panel on June 28th. This month's themes are about our city and society:
what impact will autonomy have on our city?
...shared economy, autonomy and inclusivity.
Autonopolis might mean that only a certain part our city (neighborhood or district like Times Square, the Hudson Yards or the Brooklyn Tech Triangle) where the layout, infrastructure, and economy will be ready for autonomy. And sometimes that may be ok too! From Interstate 95 to Interstate 278 highways and congested city centers, the ‘big plans’ of our past have only left us with noisy and dirty places to live... and further away from what matters most to us. With the introduction of autonomy into our city, here's an opportunity for us to begin to approach things differently; solve the urban mobility crisis and at the same time be environmentally friendly.
We must stay away from large scale, clumsy planning. We want to ask ourselves what we can do better. We need to use both data and human-centered design principles to capture our city dwellers' needs, wants and behaviors as a starting point to create sustainable change. And what that means for us is starting with small, but scalable, plans.
The idea of the Future of Driverless City: Summer Talk Series is about ...will NYC ever be able to consolidate the group of experts and resources to hopefully plan for a true (and safe) testing?
Who knows? Maybe we'll find the self-driving dream team to safely test coming April 1, 2019? This summer talk series is about planning, designing, testing, and implementing the experiences of the future of autonomous car and machines within our city. It’s about questions, self-driving stuff and of course about people. Smart Design is our venue for a glimpse of the future of cars. This is going to be a fun ride!
